Joining Instructions
We look forward to welcoming you to the Downton Shoot, and for those who have not shot here before we trust that the following information may be useful.
On the morning of the shoot coffee will be served from 9 a.m. We like to move off to the first drive by 9:30 a.m. You will be greeted by your host for the day and if you have any problems or queries, please address them to your shoot host.
You are expected to provide your own shotguns, gun sleeves, clothing and boots. The Downton Estate has a limited range of coats, boots, guns and gun slips, should any items be forgotten.
In the interest of safety we ask that guns with non auto safety catches are not used on the Downton Shoot.
We hold a range of cartridges (12 bore, 20 bore and 16 bore) and you can purchase these from the estate on the day.
Trained shooting dogs are welcome to retrieve shot birds in the area around the guns. However, there will be professional pickers-up in attendance and they expect to be picking up the majority of the birds that are shot.
Lunch is served in the middle of the day or at the end of the shoot, depending on the wishes of the party. During the morning, soup and other refreshments will be available between drives.
Unfortunately the shoot kitchen is unable to cater for differing dietary requirements, although best endeavours will be used to cater for food allergies provided sufficient notice is given beforehand.
At the end of the day each shooting member of the party will be offered a brace of birds, without charge.
